Hamilton is one of Canada's fastest growing cities with over 500,000 people and counting. Hamilton's location makes it a prime destination for commuters and major employers looking to relocate outside the GTA.
Hamilton is conveniently located 1 hour from Toronto and 1.5 hours from Buffalo, NY. It is also on a main route to the Windsor - Detroit border crossing. Hamilton seems to be at the center of all the action. Cities such as Kitchener, Waterloo, Guelph and St. Catharines are all just 30 - 45 minutes away making for an easy commute for people working in those areas.
Hamilton has a natural beauty about it that is not easily seen from the QEW as a result of its steel factories. It is known as the “Waterfall Capital of the World” boasting over 100 waterfalls in the area. It is also home to a vast amount of parklands that only locals seem to know about and enjoy.
Hamilton is also home to one of the Canada's best health care systems, run by Hamilton Health Science. It serves over 2.2 million people in southern and central Ontario.
Finding an apartment in Hamilton should be pretty easy. Prices and quality vary widely however there is a large selection of apartments to choose from so take your time when searching. You should be able to find what you're looking for in the location you want.

Hamilton apartments can be found mostly south of the QEW, east and west of Hwy 403 and east and west of the Red Hill Valley Pkwy. In other words, there are apartments in nearly every corner of the city.
Selecting an apartment in Hamilton will really come down to location and budget. For example, if you want to be near McMaster University, you will want an apartment west of Hwy 403. You may however want to consider the trendy Hess Village area if you have a larger budget.
If you work in the Niagara Region (however unlikely that may be), you will want an apartment in East Hamilton close to the Red Hill or perhaps you may even want to look in Stoney Creek. Those working anywhere from Burlington to Toronto will want to look just east and west of the 403. Check along Main Street and King Street. If you want easy access to the GO Train, look at some of the buildings in the Plains Road W. area.
Most housing close to the Lincoln Alexander Pkwy (The Link - runs along the top of Hamilton Mountain) is single family. Yes there are apartment buildings on Hamilton Mountain however many are closer to the Mountain Brow leaving you a bit too far from the Link to consider it easy access.
Apartments in Hamilton are very affordable when compared with other large Canadian cities. One bedroom apartments can cost anywhere from $550 per month to about $750. Two bedroom apartments typically start at $650 however most average about $850 a month. Vacancy rates in Hamilton remain steady at 4%.

Hamilton offers a large number of apartments in almost every area of the city. By in large, Hamilton, like most large Canadian cities is quite safe. Most apartments on the mountain and at the foot of the mountain are in demand as are apartments around Hess Village and McMaster University. However there are areas you should consider avoiding, namely the old downtown/central area. Apartments north of King Street to Burlington Street and east of James Street are located in very rough neighbourhoods. These are old, run down neighbourhoods with high instances of drug use, prostitution and poorly maintained homes and commercial real estate. You won't feel safe at the best of times in these neighbourhoods. It is highly recommended you simply look in other areas before venturing into this area. To be certain the apartment building you're considering is managed to the highest standards; look for the Certified Rental Building symbol. Hamilton is located in close proximity to Burlington, Ancaster, Stoney Creek and Dundas. In fact, it's hard to tell where one city starts and the other ends. Burlington apartment prices are much more expensive than Hamilton's as are Ancaster's. Stoney Creek and Dundas may offer apartments at comparable prices to Hamilton. Your decision however to choose one city over another will likely come down to location needs more than price. For example, people commuting to Toronto would prefer Burlington while those working in Brantford may want an apartment in the Ancaster area.
